Did You Know: Your World is Changing

The following video shows many statistics about how technology is changing the world. You are a new generation of students who has a greater responsibility in the world than any other generation previous. In addition, you now have more tools than any generation before you. Here is how they're developing.

Respond to this video and consider how technology is changing the world. Also, as students, what do you envision schools could do to help you prepare for these great changes in the twenty-first century?

An eye-opening video that has amazing statistics on the world and what is happening around us. This blog is one example of how students can become better prepared for the new future.

Although I have seen this video a couple of times, I always seem to take away something new. Today the geographic themes that run through this video jumped out at me: population growth, location, cultural universals such as language...
It is true, "Without Geography, you're nowhere."

I think that "Did You Know: Your World is changing" is a great theme to do this assignment on because it proves that technology is way more advanced than the technology in 1992. I know this because it said “one out of every four couples have met online."
I thought that people are learning more off of a computer then your brain; I thought this was really weird. Since this is the first time I have ever seen this I have learned many things new like that in 2006 every graduate in India spoke English which made me agree with Miss Christianson that, "Without Geography..., you're nowhere."

Jared, you leave a detailed response with two specific references from the video and one reference to another user; this is exactly what we should be doing in an online discussion environment. However, please be sure to check your facts very carefully before you post. At 3:26 in the video, you'll find that the statistic is actually one out of every eight people had met online.

I like this video it helps me better prepare myself of what may come my way. I found it interesting that it took 38 years for the radio to reach a market audience of 50 billion and it only took 4 years for computers, another thing I found interesting was that 1 out of 8 couples met online in the year of 2005.

Another thing that I found interesting was more than 2.7 BILLION searches were made on Google this month. About myspace was the most intriguing thing I noticed and it was that 230,000 new users singed up today. Another thing I found interesting about my space was that if it was a country it would be the 8th most largest country.

Also I found it interesting that there are more than 540,000 words in the human language, and nearly five times as many as during Shakespeare's time.

Another statistic that I found interesting was the amount of technical info is doubling every 2 years and by the year 2010 it is predicted to double every 72 hours.

I found it sad that 2 billion children live in a developed country but only one in three never completed 5th grade. Its nice that the O.L.P.O set out to provide laptops for the kids that haven't completed 5th grade, so that they also have a chance in a better life then what they may have had if people hadn't sent out those laptops. All people no matter how different they are have a equal chance a better life!

Lastly, I agree with Mr. Einstein about the fact that we cannot solve problems by using the same thinking we did to create the problem. Also seeing how bad the econimy is that we should all try and pitch in what we can to save this earth. Because as said by Ms.Christianson “Without geography...we're nowhere.”

Dakotah, this is a very thorough summary of the video including some of your own thoughts as well. You cover a wide variety of topics within your response, and at the beginning it seems to simply repeat the facts of the video with similar transition phrases such as "another thing." However, towards the end of your response, you begin to bring your own ideas in when you agree with Einstein and give us suggestions about how we should all "pitch in."

I thought that the clip “did you know: your world is changing” was interesting because it tells you how the technology was different now then in 1992. I t also says how many couples were married and they met online, it also explains how the Internet became widely used by the general public in 1995.
I thought that it was interesting when they were explaining how every graduate new English. I wonder if knowing English was a requirement?
Another interesting thing that I found was that 2.7 goggle searches were made this month, and that 230,000 new users signed up on Myspace today.
When this clip talked about the O.L.P.O program I was really interested because what this program does is give a laptop to ever kid that lets say haven’t finished 5th grade, so these children could have the same advantage at getting a better education.
This clip really does show how technology has changed over the years.

I think that the "did you know" video is trying to tell us that our world is changing. The world we live in now was not what it was 30, 20, or even 10 years ago. I think that the person who made this video is trying to tell us that technology is taking up a lot of our lives. Also that people are to dependant on technology. The video said that the “average 21 year old person has watched 20,000hours of TV” that is unbelievable no one should watch that much TV it is not good for them. I think that this is a very informative piece and I thought it was good.

The video really shows you the stuff in-between the lines that people like us don’t notice. We don’t realize what is happening around us, we just adapt to it as normal. Things are changing rapidly all around the world that is changing everybody’s lives. It said that the percent of 4 year olds who have used a computer is 70%, and also that 1 out of 8 couples in 2005 met online. Most of the “did you know” questions, I did not know and they blew my mind that they are the truth.

This video has many amazing facts that you might not know. Some of these facts seem like they are not possible because they are so wacky. I liked this video and recommend it to anybody who likes amazing things.

I thought the video Did You Knowz:Your World is Changing was a interesting clip. It gave me many facts that I never new and taught me that our world is changing everday such as topics like population growth, education, language. These topic really popped out at me. It amazes me how much the world has changed since the earlier time. Now I know how to better prepare myself because of all the statistics and ideas this video gave me.

I thought the clip “ Did you know: Your World is Changing” is a really good clip because it shows the changes of tecnogly from back then to right now and even the predictions. It even tells about how many 7-year-old kids have at least used a computer, which is 70%of them.

I thought it was really interesting that 1 out of 8 couples met online and how every graduate in India knew English. I wonder if they knew any other languages when they graduated and is English a requirement to them, that’s why every graduate in India knew English.

I also thought it was weird how every 8 seconds, about 34 babies are being born in the world because that’s a lot of babies in just 8 seconds. It also made me wonder why there is so less babies being born in the United States compare to China and India, and why India has more babies being born than China and the United States.

Lastly, this clip made me thought a lot about how our world is changing and how technology is increasing so much compare to back then.

I really enjoyed the video "Did u know :your world is changing". i really agree with the Albert Enstien in his quote"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them..." I think Alebert mean't that the people who created the technolgy of the 1900's is not as smart as our technolgy in the 2000's. The fact "that myspace could be the 8th populated country in the world!" I think that myspace would be the 8th populated because there is alot of people who have an account on myspace. Further more, I was very amazed of how many people have graduated from college in the last 3 years. I wasn't amazed by how may college dropouts there are out of 20people.Finally, I agree with Jared that people are learning more from the computer than from their brains.

I thought the video was very informing and had some amazing facts. One of the facts that surprised me was that the largest military was not in the US, but in Great Britain. However, I was not surprised that the US didn’t have the highest standard of living. Something that caught me eye was the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) on this video. In conclusion, they should put out another video that was more updated. It would be cool to see how many Google.com searches a day happened now. I would also like to see if my space would be the largest country. Finally, I think schools could help prepare us for this ever changing 21st century by teaching students haw to use electronic devises because I think as we get older, there will be more and more electronic devices.

I thought it was interesting how it said how the world is changing so much like how every one is beginning to resort technology. I also thought it was interesting how it said are people preparing you for all this technology in the 21st century. It also was cool how they showed population in America India and China and we were the lowest and were bigger than India.

I thought that this video was amazing. I never knew that we use all that bad stuff a lot. It makes me think about how our world is changing a lot. And how it will effect our future.

I think that this video clip is very interesting in everything and it looks like it has been well studied by others. It seems like this clip could change some people's view.

I thought that it was a great video and I learned a lot of new things that I even wouldn’t think of. I was surprised at most of the facts like how 7% of four year olds already have used a computer. I also liked it when it said that today’s 21 year olds have played over 10,000 video games. In conclusion, there are a lot of surprising things going on in the world and it is fun to learn about them.

I think the video clip is a video that teachers could show their students to write an essay so they could collect info about the “Did You Know” Topic. The video showed me that the world is changing faster than most people can react to and we should try to make up for the things that we as people were slow to keep up with. I think that to get us caught with technology the government should give more funds to schools around the world so they are prepared to be the new leaders of our world.

The video “Did you know” tells how number of people using electronics goes up each year. They say interesting facts such as things like most four year olds in the United States have used a computer. It has good statistics like how each year more and more people have signed on to myspace or made a myspace account. It compares myspace to the world by saying that if myspace were a country it would be the eighth largest in the world. Youtube is another website that many people have gone to not quite as many as myspace but a lot. It talks about the future and what it will be like for the new babies being born. Things like how the planet will be and what they expect for the future.

I thought that the Did You know video was interesting and gave some weird facts. A weird fact is like how it said that one in every three people never complete third grade. That is an example of a fact I would ever think possible. It also tells you how your world is changing.

I thought that the video was interesting and gave some facts about how the world is changing. They want you to know what is happening to the world. It explains what has changed from a past year to now. There have been a lot of people on the now then ever before!

Michael and Dylan (anonymous), what are some things that are actually changing about the world according to this video? What do these changes mean for you as a student? What does this mean for your future and the job you'll eventually have? How will the changes affect what you must learn in order to succeed? We need more reflection and thought before you post online.
